“Lucas’s thesis collection, Middle Country, is built around the transition from natural exploration to social integration. In the backcountry, there is a primal desire to tame the untamable, to feel and exist within the timelessness of the natural realm. From inside a towering glacier, to atop a bucking bull, surrendering to such an uninhibited experience is what keeps voyagers wanting more, despite–or perhaps in spite of–the proximity of death. They chase the moment where the confines of society seem like a distant universe. However, for Lucas and other backcountry explorers alike, the social branch of life that exists in the front country awaits. This transition from the isolated to the public domain is where my collection thrives. Drawing inspiration from utility, landscapes, and historical dress, “Middle Country” combines these two worlds of clothing: equipment meant for practicality and efficiency, with an artistic, aesthetic, and tailored exploration in fashion.” — Lucas Greffenius Scheuer
